Lamine Camara’s outstanding start to the season for AS Monaco has reportedly put him on the radar of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, with scouts from all three Premier League clubs believed to have watched the Senegal midfielder against Paris Saint-Germain on Friday.
The 22-year-old has established himself as one of Monaco’s most influential players since joining from Generation Foot. His performances have also revived interest from England after a proposed move to Chelsea failed to materialise during the most recent summer transfer window.
Camara was described as a “talent generationnel” by Monaco head coach Felipe Luis, and the midfielder has continued to strengthen that reputation with a series of impressive displays. His latest came at the Parc des Princes, where he produced another high-level performance against PSG.
Strong physical presence, tireless work-rate and an ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch have made Camara a key part of Monaco’s system. His form has played a significant role in the club’s excellent start to the Ligue 1 campaign, with Monaco currently top of the table.
Liverpool believed to be leading interest
According to TeamTalk, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool are all monitoring Camara closely. Representatives from each club were reportedly in the stands at the Parc des Princes on Friday to assess the Senegal international in person.
Liverpool are thought to have moved ahead of their rivals in the race. The Reds have reportedly identified Camara as their leading target for next summer’s transfer window and are expected to continue tracking his progress over the coming months.
Arsenal and Manchester City remain credible options for the Africa Cup of Nations winner, who is understood to be keen to take the next step in his career by eventually joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Camara could therefore have several opportunities to choose from after his failed transfer to Chelsea. If he maintains his current level, the number of clubs interested in signing him is likely to increase before the end of the season.
His market value is currently estimated at 40m euros by Transfermarkt. Camara is also reported to earn an annual salary of 920,000 euros, equivalent to 598,000,000 CFA francs.
Monaco’s next fixture is against Strasbourg in the fourth round of the French championship. The published betting odds for the match list Monaco as favourites at 2.15, with a draw priced at 3.75 and a Strasbourg victory at 3.10.
The growing attention surrounding Camara follows a period in which he has become increasingly important to Monaco, both in possession and without the ball.
