Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has apologised for criticising the club’s leadership following the Champions League defeat by Atletico, BBC Sport understands.

Martinez was also fined for his comments, although the amount of the punishment has not been disclosed.

The Argentina international met Manchester United’s leadership and manager Michael Carrick on Thursday before issuing a statement on social media.

Martinez acknowledged that his remarks had not helped the team’s unity.

His availability for Sunday’s match against Leeds United has not yet been confirmed.
