Jordan Ayew will continue his career in English football after signing a one-year contract with Sheffield United.
The 34-year-old Ghana international was a free agent following his departure from Leicester City and has now completed the final formalities of his move to the Championship club. He is therefore available to join Chris Wilder’s squad immediately.
The transfer was reported by Footy-Africa and gives Ayew the opportunity to remain in England after spending last season with Leicester City. Sheffield United will be hoping his experience at the highest level can strengthen their squad as they compete in the Championship.
Ayew has spent much of his career in English football and has also represented Crystal Palace. His familiarity with the demands of the English game is expected to be valuable to Sheffield United, who will be able to call on a forward with extensive top-level experience.
The Ghanaian also arrives after an international summer that included the World Cup. Ayew played in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament, helping the Black Stars reach the last 16.
His involvement in every game underlined his importance to the national team, while his experience gives Sheffield United another proven attacking option. The move also brings an end to a period of uncertainty for Ayew after he became available following his Leicester City exit.
According to exclusive sources cited by Africafoot, Ayew had attracted interest from AEL Limassol in recent weeks. He has instead chosen to stay in England and take up a new challenge with Sheffield United.
Transfermarkt currently estimates Ayew’s market value at €1m. At 34, he now begins another stage of his career with the club managed by Wilder, with the aim of contributing both his experience and his attacking effectiveness.
Sheffield United’s next Championship fixture is against Blackburn, with the match scheduled for the sixth round of the English second tier. The game will provide an early opportunity for attention to turn towards Ayew’s new club and the part he may play in Wilder’s plans.
Betting company 1xbet lists Blackburn as 2.95 to win, with the draw priced at 3.40 and a Sheffield United victory at 2.28.
