On Tuesday, 13 October, judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition against the 48-year-old after a representative of HMRC confirmed in court that the debt had been paid. The exact amount owed was not disclosed during the hearing.

The bankruptcy petition was submitted in August. Earlier reports suggested Carragher’s tax debt could have been about £750,000, equivalent to approximately $1m.
