Inter have extended Federico Dimarco’s contract by one season, with the Italy defender now tied to the club until 30 June 2028.
The decision was made after Inter activated an option in the 28-year-old’s existing agreement, according to Goal.com. The new arrangement secures Dimarco’s future at the club for an additional year and follows a highly successful campaign for the defender.
A meeting was held in Madrid between Inter’s new sporting director, Dario Baccin, and Dimarco’s agent, Arturo Canales. The discussions focused on the club’s plans for the player and the next stage of his career at Inter.
Dimarco has previously stated publicly that he wants to remain at Inter for his entire career. The Italian is also seeking recognition for his contribution to the team, alongside improved contractual terms after his outstanding performances last season.
He was named Serie A’s best player during that campaign and helped Inter win two further trophies. Those achievements have strengthened his position at the club and prompted talks about a longer-term agreement.
Inter’s leadership is understood to be prepared to offer Dimarco a long-term contract. However, a significant increase in his basic salary is not currently planned. Instead, the improved terms are expected to focus on individual and team-related bonuses.
The extension means Dimarco’s current commitment will run through the end of June 2028, rather than expiring one season earlier. It also reflects the club’s desire to retain a player who has become an important part of its plans.
The Madrid meeting provided an opportunity for Baccin and Canales to discuss those plans directly, including the financial structure of a revised agreement. While the proposed salary increase is not expected to be substantial, Inter are ready to improve the incentives linked to Dimarco’s personal achievements and the team’s success.
Dimarco’s wish to spend his whole career at Inter had already been made clear before the latest negotiations. The club’s willingness to extend his deal and improve the bonus conditions represents progress towards that ambition, while preserving the existing salary structure as far as possible.
For now, the key change is the activation of the one-year option, which takes the defender’s contract to 30 June 2028. Further improvements to the agreement are expected to concern bonuses rather than a major rise in fixed pay.
