Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has reacted with surprise to the club’s decision not to dismiss Michael Carrick after the side’s 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth in the eighth round of the Premier League.
Manchester United’s owners had previously been reported to have decided against rushing into a change of manager. Carrick has instead been given time to try to turn the team’s situation around.
The result extended Manchester United’s winless league run to six matches and left the club 16th in the table.
Carrick’s side will be away to Chelsea next Saturday.
