Nigeria’s Future Eagles have drawn their opening two matches at the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, scoring five goals and conceding five.
Patrick Bassey’s team began with a 3-3 draw against South Sudan on Saturday. South Sudan took the lead before Wisdom Boniface equalised for Nigeria.
The Sudanese side moved ahead again, but captain Timothy Ogar levelled the contest shortly before half-time. Wisdom Oche then put the Future Eagles in front after the break, only for South Sudan to score again less than a minute before the final whistle.
Nigeria were involved in another closely fought match against Jordan on Sunday morning. Neither side found the net in the opening period, before Ogar gave the Future Eagles the lead after the restart.
Jordan equalised five minutes later and then went in front, but Abdulrazak Muftau rescued a point for Nigeria with the final kick of the match.
The Future Eagles will face fellow West African side The Gambia on Sunday evening.
They are scheduled to play Cyprus early on Monday morning, before meeting Pakistan later the same afternoon.
The inaugural tournament is being played in an eight-a-side format, with each match consisting of two 20-minute halves.
Results in the group stage will determine the tier in which each country competes during the second stage. Those matches will take place on 28th and 29th October, with the tier finals scheduled for Friday, 30th October.
