Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Edo Queens FC have secured a place in the semifinals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers after defeating Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas 3-1 in their second Group B fixture on Thursday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring for Edo Queens in the 23rd minute before Doosuur Atume doubled their advantage eight minutes before half-time, giving the Nigerian champions a 2-0 lead at the break.
ASEC Mimosas responded after the restart, pulling a goal back to reduce the deficit and put pressure on Edo Queens.
The Nigerian champions remained composed, however, and restored their two-goal advantage through Oluebube Umajiaku in the 89th minute to seal a 3-1 victory.
The result guarantees Edo Queens a place in the semifinals with one group-stage match still to play.
The Benin City-based side had opened their campaign with an emphatic 7-0 victory over AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic on Monday. With six points from two matches, Edo Queens currently lead Group B with 10 goals scored.
They will face Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their final group fixture as they continue their pursuit of the WAFU-B title and a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
Speaking after the victory, Edo Queens’ stand-in technical manager Kennedy Boboye praised the players for maintaining their composure against a strong ASEC Mimosas side.
“I’m happy that our girls stood their ground. We played against a good side with quality today, but thank God we were able to take our chances when they came.
“Congratulations to our girls; they made us proud, and we hope to achieve our purpose of coming to this tournament in Burkina Faso. We promised our people five over five before we left Benin City.”
Edo Queens will now shift their focus to their final Group B encounter as they look to maintain their perfect record and move closer to securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
