Dortmund hold off Sabah as Guirassy seals Champions League victory

Borussia Dortmund secured a narrow 2-1 victory away to Sabah on Tuesday to maintain their European ambitions in the third round of the UEFA Champions League league phase.

The visitors made the ideal start when S. Guirassy opened the scoring in the 10th minute, putting Dortmund in front early in the contest.

Sabah responded before half-time, with Aden Mccar levelling in the 39th minute and giving the hosts renewed hope of claiming a result against one of the competition’s leading sides.

Dortmund restored their advantage eight minutes after the interval. Guirassy struck again in the 53rd minute after being set up by Joey Veerman, completing his double and putting the German club back in control.

Sabah pushed to find another equaliser but could not prevent their opponents from leaving with all three points. Dortmund’s hard-fought win strengthens their position in the league phase, while Sabah will regret failing to turn a determined performance into a positive result.
