Domenico Tedesco has been suspended for two Serie A matches and fined €5,000 after being sent off during Bologna’s game against Sassuolo.
The former Spartak manager was shown a red card after disputing a decision with the referee. The incident was subsequently reviewed by Italy’s disciplinary commission, which confirmed the punishment.
Tedesco will therefore miss Bologna’s next two Serie A fixtures as the club attempt to improve their start to the new season. The decision was reported by Football Italia.
Bologna have collected only one point from their opening three league matches under Tedesco and currently sit 15th in the Serie A table. The team’s poor return means the suspension comes at an early and difficult stage of the campaign, with Tedesco now unable to lead the side from the technical area for the next two games.
The next match for Bologna is scheduled for 13 September, when they travel to face Napoli. The disciplinary ruling means Tedesco will not be in charge on the touchline for that fixture, which will be played away from home.
The two-match ban applies specifically to Serie A matches, while the financial penalty has been set at €5,000. Both sanctions follow Tedesco’s dismissal against Sassuolo, where his objections to the referee resulted in the red card.
Bologna’s position in the table reflects a start in which they have managed just a single point across three rounds. Tedesco, who previously coached Spartak, is now tasked with guiding the club through the next stage of the season while serving the suspension imposed by the disciplinary commission.
His absence will be felt immediately, with Bologna’s next league assignment coming against Napoli on 13 September. The club will enter that match from 15th place, having failed to secure a win in their first three Serie A games.
