Francisco Conceicao believes Milan offered little in Sunday’s meeting with Juventus, claiming their opponents created nothing of note apart from the goal that secured a share of the points.
The two sides played out another draw in the headline match of the weekend in Italian football, extending a run of three consecutive stalemates between Milan and Juventus. For Conceicao, the result reflected a contest in which Milan struggled to produce a sustained attacking threat.
The Juventus forward said Milan had failed to surprise his side and defended the impression that their performance was largely limited to the decisive moment in which they found the net.
“Apart from the goal, Milan created nothing,” Conceicao said.
His assessment focused on Milan’s lack of invention beyond that single episode. Although the match ended level, Conceicao did not believe Juventus had been confronted by a Milan side capable of consistently troubling them.
The latest draw means that Juventus and Milan have now shared the points in each of their past three meetings. Sunday’s match was billed as the central fixture of the weekend in Italian football, but it again ended without a winner.
Conceicao’s comments underline Juventus’ frustration at not turning the contest into a victory, while also reflecting his view that Milan did not do enough to justify taking more from the match. The Portuguese forward singled out the goal as the only significant contribution from their opponents.
There was no suggestion from Conceicao that Milan had produced a performance full of danger beyond that moment. Instead, his conclusion was that Juventus had largely contained their threat during the game, despite being unable to claim all three points.
The draw leaves the latest meeting between the clubs following the same pattern as the previous two. Neither side was able to break the sequence and establish superiority, with the rivals once again finishing level.
Juventus will now turn their attention to the next round of Serie A, when they are due to face Sassuolo. That fixture will provide the Turin club with their next opportunity to convert a competitive performance into a win.
For now, however, the main talking point from Sunday’s match is the repeated inability of Juventus and Milan to separate. Conceicao’s view is that the balance of play was not matched by Milan’s attacking output, with their goal standing alone as the one moment he regarded as having made a meaningful difference.
