Christian Kofane’s Leverkusen future uncertain as Premier League interest grows

Published on: 07 October 2026

Christian Kofane’s future at Bayer Leverkusen has become uncertain after talks over a new contract stalled, with his agent Eric Depolo suggesting a move to the Premier League could now be the best outcome for all parties.

The situation was confirmed by Depolo to the Daily Arsenal, following earlier reports that discussions over an extension had begun. No agreement has been reached and negotiations are currently at a standstill.

Kofane, 20, remains highly sought-after in England. Several Premier League clubs explored the possibility of signing the Cameroon striker during the last summer transfer window, but none completed a deal and he stayed with Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen rejected three bids worth about €70m

Bayer Leverkusen have shown little willingness to part with their young centre-forward despite the growing interest in his services.

According to Depolo, the German club rejected three offers worth about €70m from English clubs Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle. The bids underline the level of interest in Kofane, while Leverkusen’s decision reflects the value they place on the player.

However, with contract negotiations now blocked, his position could change during the coming months.

Arsenal have been monitoring Kofane for some time and have maintained contact with his representatives. The Gunners remain informed about developments surrounding the striker and are continuing to assess his situation.

Depolo said Arsenal particularly admired Kofane’s profile and long-term potential. The London club nevertheless believes that an intermediate step could benefit the Cameroon international before he potentially moves to the Emirates Stadium.

That plan would involve Kofane continuing his development at a less exposed Premier League club before making the move to a side competing near the top of the division.

Manchester United also interested

Arsenal are not the only major English club keeping track of the forward. Manchester United have also reportedly shown an interest in Kofane.

Depolo confirmed that interest from the Red Devils, but said Manchester United had not yet contacted him about a possible transfer.

With discussions at Bayer Leverkusen currently on hold, Kofane could become one of the major transfer stories to follow during the next window. Arsenal, Manchester United and several other Premier League clubs have already been attracted by his qualities, increasing the possibility that the Cameroon striker could move to England in the coming months.

Before then, Bayer Leverkusen are due to play their fifth Bundesliga match against Mainz.
