Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem is closing in on a return to the Turkish Super Lig, with Konyaspor set to complete his signing from French club Nantes, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
According to reports, the Nigeria international has agreed to a two-year contract with the Turkish side, with the deal also containing an option for a further one-year extension.
Konyaspor are expected to pay €1 million to Nantes to secure the services of the versatile centre-back, who is poised to leave the French club after just one season.
Awaziem joined Nantes from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids last summer but is now set for a fresh challenge following the Canaries' disappointing 2025/26 campaign, which ended in relegation from Ligue 1 after they finished 17th in the standings.
The 28-year-old featured in 26 league matches for the eight-time French champions, contributing one goal and two assists from defence.
A move to Konyaspor would see Awaziem return to familiar surroundings, having previously enjoyed successful spells in Turkey with Çaykur Rizespor and Alanyaspor, where he earned a reputation as one of the league's most reliable defenders.
Konyaspor finished eighth in the Turkish Super Lig last season and also reached the Turkish Cup final, where they were beaten by Trabzonspor. The club will now be hoping Awaziem's experience and leadership will strengthen their defence ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
