Chelsea could revive their long-standing interest in Jules Kounde in 2027, despite the defender having recently extended his contract until 2030.
The Blues have monitored the France international since 2025, when reports suggested he was unsettled by being used at right-back in Catalonia.
Kounde has started only two games for Hansi Flick's team so far in the 2026/27 season. One factor has been his extended summer break following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while his new contract has strengthened Barcelona's position.
Chelsea remain interested in the 27-year-old, who is still valued at around €60M. That figure would fall within Chelsea's budget should the club decide to make a formal offer during 2027.
Xabi Alonso spent heavily during the summer to add depth to his squad. Marco Palestra was brought in as cover at right-back, alongside fellow new defenders Maxence Lacroix and Pep Chavarria, while other players were moved on.
Despite those changes and Kounde's contract extension, Chelsea have not ruled out returning for the defender.
