Senegal began their UFOA-A U17 campaign in commanding fashion, beating Mauritania 4-0 at the Stade Lat-Dior de Thies on Monday, 7 September 2026.
The result gives the hosts an ideal start in Group A and immediately puts them at the top of the pool as the tournament gets under way in Senegal.
Senegal controlled the contest from the outset and produced a decisive attacking display against Mauritania, who were unable to match the intensity or organisation of their opponents. The home side’s performance was underlined by a double from Cheikh Oumar Sy, while Souleymane Commissaire Faye and Amadou Ndiaye also found the net.
The emphatic scoreline reflected Senegal’s authority throughout the game. Their attacking players repeatedly created problems for the Mauritanian defence, with Sy’s two goals providing the focal point of a convincing team performance.
Mauritania, known as the Mourabitounes, struggled to find a response once Senegal established control. The visitors could not produce the resources needed to compete with a Senegal side that combined individual quality with an effective collective approach.
For Senegal, the victory was the strongest possible opening to a competition in which they are competing on home soil. The four-goal margin also gives the Lionceaux de la Teranga an early boost as they prepare for the next stage of their Group A campaign.
The Senegalese squad will now turn their attention to their second official match of the tournament, against Sierra Leone on Thursday. Victory over Mauritania means they approach that fixture with confidence and at the summit of their group.
Monday’s meeting was the only match played in the UFOA-A U17 tournament that day. With no other result to challenge Senegal’s position, the hosts finish the opening round as the early leaders of Group A.

Senegal’s next assignment against Sierra Leone will offer them the chance to build on a performance that has given them an ideal platform in the competition. Mauritania, meanwhile, will have to recover from a heavy opening defeat as the tournament continues.
