Former England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has praised Mikel Arteta’s reaction to a penalty incident during Arsenal’s 2-0 away win at Sunderland.
Carragher said the Arsenal manager was becoming “a new Alex Ferguson for the Premier League”, drawing a comparison with the former Manchester United boss.
Arsenal secured victory at Sunderland to move on to 12 points and take top spot in the Premier League. They are level on points with second-placed Manchester City but lead the reigning champions on additional criteria.
The result maintained Arsenal’s position at the summit after a match in which Arteta’s response to the penalty decision attracted Carragher’s attention.
