Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu dedicated his goal and Man of the Match award to the Nigerian Air Force officers who died in the NAF931 jet crash.

Tanimu scored in the 44th minute on Friday as his side earned a valuable away point against Dodoma Jiji FC in their Tanzania League Matchday 7 fixture.

His goal helped his team secure a positive result, while his overall performance was recognised with the Man of the Match award.

But the defender’s thoughts after the game were focused on the military personnel who lost their lives while serving Nigeria.

In a message posted on his official X account, Tanimu said he was dedicating both his goal and individual award to the fallen officers.

“I dedicate this goal and award to my dear friends who FELL IN THE LINE OF DUTY while serving our Fatherland. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Tanimu wrote.

He ended his tribute with a final message to the deceased servicemen, writing: “REST WELL, GALLANT HEROES!”

The Nigerian defender’s performance therefore carried significance beyond the result, as he used a personal milestone to remember officers who died in the line of duty.

Tanimu’s tribute also connected his achievement in football with the wider sacrifice made in service of the country.
