Barcelona v Real Madrid: Leaders’ perfect start faces major El Clasico test

Published on: 24 October 2026

Barcelona host Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday in an El Clasico with the title race already under significant pressure for the visitors.

Barcelona have won all nine of their league matches under Hansi Flick, collecting 27 points while scoring 30 goals. A victory would take them nine points clear of Real Madrid, who currently sit six points behind their rivals.

Real Madrid recorded their fourth consecutive victory this week, beating RB Leipzig 4-0 in the Champions League. It was their third successive win in which they scored four goals, but defeat in Barcelona would leave their title hopes in serious danger.

The match will begin at 20:00 UK time.

Barcelona are without Dani Olmo, who has an adductor injury, while Roony Bardghji is unavailable with a knee problem. Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia are also ruled out because of thigh injuries.

Jules Kounde is a major doubt for the hosts after suffering an ankle issue.

Real Madrid will be without Rodrygo, who has a knee injury, as well as Ferland Mendy, who is recovering from a hip problem, and Raul Asencio, who has a leg injury. Jose Mourinho is rotating his side for the fixture.

Barcelona’s listed team is: Garcia, Espart, Martin, Cubarsi, Cancelo, Pedri, Rodri, Gordon, Fermin, Yamal and Raphinha.

Real Madrid’s listed team is: Courtois, Cucurella, Huijsen, Konate, Valverde, Bernardo, Tchouameni, Guler, Bellingham, Diomande and Mbappe.

Barcelona’s recent form is recorded as WWWWW, while Real Madrid’s is WWLWWL.

The home side have been the more productive team in the league, scoring 16 more goals than Real Madrid in the same number of matches.

Lamine Yamal has scored eight league goals, supplied six assists and created 32 chances in the figures reported before the match.

Mbappe, meanwhile, is averaging one goal per league appearance. He has scored nine goals and provided two assists in his first nine league appearances.

Barcelona will therefore look to maintain their unbeaten league start and extend their advantage at the top, while Real Madrid need a result to prevent the gap from widening further.
