Barcelona are preparing a move for Tottenham defender Pedro Porro, with the club hoping Spain’s success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup can help persuade another leading international player to return home.
Spain’s World Cup victory influenced Rodri’s decision to leave Manchester City and move back to his native country. The veteran midfielder rejected a contract extension from Manchester City, as well as an attractive proposal from Real Madrid, before completing his transfer to Barcelona.
Rodri’s opportunity to play alongside his Spain team-mates at club level was an important factor in Barcelona’s favour. The Catalan club now wants to use a similar appeal to recruit Porro.
The defender has established himself as Spain’s first-choice right-back during the World Cup, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta has identified him as a priority target. According to reports from Cat3, Laporta wants Porro to combine with Lamine Yamal on a new-look right side for Barcelona in 2027.
A potential agreement would not be straightforward. Porro signed a new contract with Tottenham in North London shortly after the World Cup, extending his commitment to the club until 2031.
However, Tottenham’s difficulties could create an opening for Barcelona. Porro, who previously played for Sporting Lisbon, is valued at £60M.
