Philadelphia Union midfielder Kavan Sullivan will continue his career with Manchester City, despite reports that Barcelona and Real Madrid could attempt to secure his signature.
Manchester City agreed a deal for the highly rated player some time ago, with the transfer due to take place after Sullivan turns 18. The long-term agreement between the teenager and the English club will remain in place.
Recent speculation suggested the move could collapse because of possible sanctions against Manchester City over alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules. However, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, those reports are inaccurate.
Sullivan is expected to join Manchester City as originally planned. Barcelona and Real Madrid had reportedly been prepared to try to persuade the midfielder to change clubs, but neither side will be able to prevent the move.
The American turned 17 on 28 September.
