NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen has dismissed reports linking him and Coach Ladan Bosso to the Super Eagles job, calling the rumours “baseless and hurtful," Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

News of a possible sack of the former Malan Coach became rife on social media if the Super Eagles do not qualify for the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday.

The news from Score Nigeria states that Chelle will be sacked, while the NFF has instructed Augustine Eguavoen and Ladan Bosso to prepare to take over.

However, Eguavoen has expressed great displeasure in the news, saying he has a good working relationship with the gaffer.

“I have a great working relationship with Coach Eric Chelle and absolutely no interest in taking over. I’m praying for him to succeed,” Eguavoen stated.

The former Super Eagles boss condemned speculations aimed at creating division within the team, recalling similar rumours during the tenures of Gernot Rohr and José Peseiro.

Eguavoen urged unity, stressing that “everyone must work together to help Nigeria qualify for the World Cup and win the AFCON in Morocco.”
