Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made an impressive start to life with Deportivo, moving into a three-way tie at the top of La Liga’s attacking charts after helping his side beat Villarreal 3-2 away from home.
The 37-year-old forward scored once and created two goals in the victory, taking his tally for the season to four goals and two assists. His six goal contributions put him level with Barcelona’s Raphinha Dias and Rayo Vallecano’s Sergio Camello, who have each recorded five goals and one assist.
Aubameyang’s display was central to Deportivo’s success at Villarreal. The Gabon international made his mark both as a scorer and as a provider, contributing three times to a result that saw the newly returned side claim an important away win.
The figures underline the impact Aubameyang has already had since joining the Galician club. While his total of four goals is not the highest in La Liga, his combined output of goals and assists places him alongside Raphinha Dias and Camello at the top of the standings for goal contributions.
Aubameyang joined Deportivo in July after leaving French club Marseille. His arrival gave the Galician side an experienced attacking option as they returned to Spain’s top division following an eight-year absence.
That return has provided the backdrop to Aubameyang’s early influence. Deportivo are competing in La Liga again after spending eight years outside the highest level of Spanish football, and their forward has quickly become one of the division’s most productive players.
Against Villarreal, his contribution was decisive. He found the net himself and supplied two assists as Deportivo secured a 3-2 win on the road. The result also allowed Aubameyang to strengthen his position among La Liga’s leading attacking performers, with six contributions from the opening part of the campaign.
For a player who only moved to Deportivo in July, the start has been particularly notable. Aubameyang is already sharing the competition’s overall lead for goals and assists with Raphinha Dias and Sergio Camello, giving Deportivo an immediate focal point in attack.
His four goals and two assists also mean that all three players have reached six total contributions, although they have done so in different ways. Aubameyang’s balance is two assists heavier than the returns of Raphinha Dias and Camello, whose totals stand at five goals and one assist each.
The win at Villarreal therefore combined a significant team result with another productive performance from Aubameyang. Deportivo’s new signing now sits alongside two other leading La Liga contributors, having quickly established himself as one of the key attacking figures of the season.
