A new wave of Algerian players is making headlines across Europe, with five internationals impressing in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway during the opening months of the season.
From established players reaffirming their value to youngsters making rapid breakthroughs, their performances are already attracting attention ahead of the January transfer window.
Fares Ghedjemis
Fares Ghedjemis has responded to a turbulent summer by becoming a key player for Frosinone in Serie A.
The 24-year-old recently extended his contract after Monaco and Besiktas were reportedly interested in signing him. He was even left out of the squad until the end of the transfer window.
Since returning to the team, however, the Algeria international has re-established himself on the right side of the attack. He has started all seven of his matches and recorded four assists, making him one of the players to watch when the transfer market reopens in January.
Ibrahim Maza
Ibrahim Maza has continued his rapid development in the Bundesliga and in European competition.
The 20-year-old has started all seven of his Bundesliga games, accumulating 600 minutes, with two goals and two assists. He has also scored in the Europa League against Lech Poznan and provided an assist in the DFB-Pokal.
His form has attracted interest from England and France. Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City and PSG are among the clubs reportedly monitoring him.
Maza remains under contract with Leverkusen until June 2030, but the club want to keep him and are considering offering him a significantly improved new deal.
Anis Hadj Moussa
Anis Hadj Moussa has started nine of Feyenoord’s first 10 Eredivisie matches and has scored six goals, along with one assist, in 796 minutes.
The 24-year-old right-winger also scored against Como in Feyenoord’s 3-2 Champions League victory, which was the club’s first win in the league phase.
Hadj Moussa has renewed his contract until 2030 and is valued at 28m euros. His summer was dominated by speculation, with Benfica and Newcastle among the clubs linked with him. A move to Saudi Arabia was also discussed, according to exclusive sources.
Rafik Belghali
Rafik Belghali’s decision to remain in Serie A has paid off since his move from Hellas Verona to Torino FC.
The 24-year-old right-back joined on loan with an obligation to buy and quickly established himself as a dependable starter. He has one goal and three assists in six league appearances, including four starts, totalling 348 minutes.
Belghali remains contracted to Verona until June 2029, but his current form and 8m-euro valuation make a return to the club in Serie B unlikely. He is expected either to seek a permanent route away or remain in Turin.
Amin Chiakha
Amin Chiakha, who came through at Copenhagen and represented Denmark at youth level before choosing Algeria, has completed a permanent move to Rosenborg for about 5m euros.
The 20-year-old striker, valued at 8m euros and contracted until December 2030, has made a decisive impact in the Eliteserien. He has scored 15 goals in 23 league appearances and was named the league’s best young player for August for the second consecutive time.
Rosenborg recognise it may be difficult to keep him this winter or next summer, with German and French clubs continuing to show interest.
