Albert Guðmundsson scores Lazio’s landmark 4,000th Serie A goal

Albert Guðmundsson’s late winner against Udinese gave Lazio a 2-1 victory and also marked the 4,000th goal in the club’s history in Italy’s top flight.

The Iceland international, a new signing for Lazio, struck two minutes before the end of normal time to settle the latest round of the Italian championship.

Guðmundsson’s goal was therefore significant for two reasons. It secured three points for the Rome club against Udinese, while also becoming a historic milestone in Lazio’s record in Serie A.

Lazio are now the sixth club in the history of Italy’s top division to reach 4,000 goals. The other five clubs to have achieved the same landmark are Inter, Juventus, Milan, Roma and Fiorentina.

The achievement underlined the importance of Guðmundsson’s contribution on a night when the forward delivered the decisive moment. Lazio had been involved in a closely contested match with Udinese, but the Icelandic forward’s late finish ensured that the hosts emerged with a 2-1 success.

His goal came with only two minutes of normal time remaining, leaving Udinese little opportunity to respond before the final whistle. It was recorded as Lazio’s 4,000th goal in Serie A, adding a landmark statistic to what was already a winning performance.

The result also leaves Lazio third in the Serie A table. Their position means the club’s latest victory carried significance beyond the historical record, as the Rome side continues its campaign near the top of the Italian championship.

For Lazio, the milestone places the club among an exclusive group of Italy’s most prolific top-flight teams. Inter, Juventus, Milan, Roma and Fiorentina had previously reached the 4,000-goal mark, and Lazio have now joined them.

Guðmundsson’s late strike will consequently be remembered not only as the goal that defeated Udinese, but also as the one that completed Lazio’s fourth century of Serie A goals.
