Falconets head coach Moses Aduku believes several members of his squad can earn promotion to Nigeria’s senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, after their impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria recovered from a difficult start in Poland to reach the quarter-finals, underlining the potential within Aduku’s team.
Captain Christianah Uzoma played a decisive role in their Round of 16 victory over England. She saved Rachel Maltby’s penalty in the 33rd minute, helping the Falconets secure their progress to the last eight.
Nigeria have also shown considerable attacking threat during the tournament. Winner Onajite David and Ramotalahi Kareem have each scored three goals, while Janet Akekoromowei, Tosin Rafiu and Rebecca Adegbemile have contributed two goals apiece.
Aduku calls for continued development
Aduku believes the competition is an important stage in the players’ development and can help prepare them for the eventual move into the senior national set-up.
“I think the girls are doing well. We need to do more,” Aduku told FIFA.
“There is going to be a transition to the senior national team from this junior side. So they really need to apply themselves. This is just the platform.”
The coach’s comments come after several Falconets players made a strong impression during Nigeria’s run in Poland.
Aduku will hope the tournament experience provides a firm foundation for their progression, with the players aiming to establish themselves with the Super Falcons in the future.
