Nigeria international Paul Onuachu is keen to help his Belgian club KRC Genk break a record this weekend.
The towering centre forward grabbed a brace in Genk’s 5-1 rout of Cercle Brugge in the Belgian First Division A match over the weekend.
As a result, Onuachu is now outright top scorer in the league with 12 goals from 13 matches.
The win over Brugge saw Genk equaled a club record of six straight wins and a new club record will be set if they beat Antwerp at home on Sunday.
“With a victory against Antwerp next week, we can fall into the Genk history book. Seven in a row: we should succeed,” Onuachu said on All Nigeria Soccer.
“I am really satisfied with those twelve goals, I get an average of almost one goal per game. Because I only played thirteen, hey, I had to pass up the top match against Club Brugge.”
The 26-year-old’s best season in front of goal was the 2016/17 campaign as he netted 22 goals across all competitions (18 in the Danish Superliga) for FC Midtjylland.
“In my best season at FC Midtjylland I once started with eleven goals in eleven matches, this is pretty close,” he added.
“But of course you don’t make all those goals alone. Today my goals were just as much the credit of Junya Ito and Théo Bongonda,
“I am happy that they each poked one of them against the nets.”
