Lagos side, Ikorodu City bounced back from their weekend 3-4 loss to Sunshine to get an emphatic win against Kano Pillars on Wednesday at home, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The league first-timers fell the pillars of Kano by four goals to one at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos in a game played behind closed doors.
The hosts started brightly, scoring in the third after Shola Adelani's near post header off a corner from Salau Yusuf.
It was 2 for the Oga Boys as Harrison Austin scored with a belter from outside following a well-worked corner and a second assist for Salau Yusuf.
Pillars pulled one back as Abba Adam headed past City goalkeeper Aina on 37 minutes. The first half ended 2-1 with a lot to play for in the second half.
There was no going back for the hosts as they increased the intensity in the second phase and a few minutes into the half the third goal was scored.
Harrison Austin’s direct corner seemed to have been turned in by Rabiu Ali at the near post for an own goal in the 54th minute.
Ikorodu City substitution saw Freedom Marvelous and Ayomide Cole come on for Harrison Austin and Toyeeb Ajeyigbe.
And indeed it was an instant impact. Ayomide Cole 3 minutes into the game and he blasts the ball past the goalkeeper. Salau Yusuf was the man with a hat trick of assists in the game.
Ikorodu City will the game off as it is, winning 4-1 to go 5th in the league standings, usurping Rangers International, Abia Warriors, and Kano Pillars.
