"?Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has revealed that national coach Lars Lagerback called England 'the most overrated national team' before their Euro 2016 upset in beating the Three Lions.

The plucky underdogs of the international tournament in France last summer saw Iceland produce one of the most sensational results in the last 16 when they saw off then-manager Roy Hodgson's England 2-1, and made it to the quarter finals, only to lose out 5-2 to hosts France.

According to "?the Sun, the former Chelsea front-man has been speaking of his experiences of the tournament, and mentioned that Iceland's coach Lagerback installed a lot of belief in the national side ahead of their mammoth clash with one of Europe's top teams.

"This is something Lars Lagerbeck pointed out," said Gudjohnsen. "In recent years we are playing against the most overrated national team side "? looking back it is true.

"There is always so much pressure for them to do well at a major championship and they haven't for a long time."

Despite not starting for his country during the tournament, the 37-year-old, who has earned 88 caps for Iceland during an impressive and successful career, Gudjohnsen played a pivotal role in encouraging and motivating his teammates during the tournament.

Their good form on the international stage hasn't stopped there either, as Iceland are now joint top of their World Cup qualifying group following a dramatic come-back 3-2 victory over Finland on Thursday, which included two goals in stoppage time.
