Ibrahim Maza scored once and set up the winner as Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to beat Freiburg 2-1 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

The Algeria international was central to both of Leverkusen’s goals, underlining his growing influence in the club’s attack.

Freiburg took the lead in the 14th minute through Derry Scherhant, but Leverkusen were level within five minutes. Maza, 20, found the net to bring his side back into the game and quickly erase the deficit.

The attacking midfielder continued to provide a threat after the interval, combining his technical ability with perceptive passing. His decisive contribution came in the 76th minute, when he created the winning goal for Patrik Schick with a well-timed assist.

Maza’s display helped complete the turnaround and secured an important victory for Bayer Leverkusen after Freiburg had made the stronger start.

He now has two goals and two assists this season. Those figures move him closer to his numbers from the previous campaign and further establish his importance to Leverkusen’s attacking system.

Bayer Leverkusen will soon face OFI Crete in their third match of the league phase of the Europa League.
