IACHINI: "THE MORE WE WORK, THE MORE WE IMPROVE"

Beppe Iachini praised the efforts of his Fiorentina players after they beat Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday night to officially secure their Serie A TIM status for another season.

“Nobody has a magic wand but the more we work together and the more we get to know one another, the more we improve in terms of our organisation, our play, our reading of the game and our understanding,” said Iachini, speaking in his post-match press conference.

“The lads are progressing well,” continued Iachini. “We have the best defensive record since the resumption of the league with some good statistics. We’re creating lots of chances, but again today we weren’t able to take them all. We had lots of chances in the first half today but we didn’t make the right decision in terms of the finish, the final ball or reading the move. That’s happened in other games too. We did well to keep believing, put the game to bed and then see it out.”

Iachini went on to speak more broadly about the progress of the team since he took over back in December.

“When I came in, we were two points off the relegation zone having picked up one point in six games,” he said. “There was a lot of worry around the club but the lads were fantastic and we set about doing some good work together. That was producing results, but then unfortunately we had to stop and were the worst-affected teams in terms of coronavirus, with lots of players directly affected. The return to training was tough for us, but we played as a group, as a team, stuck together and worked hard.

“We might have had some more points since the resumption, but unfortunately we didn’t get them – we hit the woodwork five times. We’ve done a good job, though, and the lads never stopped working hard or believing. Credit to them for everything they’ve given me and continue to give me. We need to keep it up. We have four games left and we need to take it one match at a time. We need to keep working and try to do as well as possible from now until the end of the season.”

Iachini also had a word for Franck Ribery, who again excelled against the Granata.

“Franck is a top player that we were without for a long time,” said the coach. “He was out for six months but he always showed his bond with the team and trained well. He gives the team more personality and is a very important player.”
