Hull City have signed Genoa defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy on a five-year contract, with the transfer fee undisclosed.
The 22-year-old Englishman becomes the club’s 15th new arrival during the summer transfer window, in a move that is expected to strengthen the right side of manager Sergej Jakirovic’s defence.
As part of the agreement, Hull City defender Cody Drameh has moved in the opposite direction to Genoa.
Norton-Cuffy spent the past two seasons with the Italian club and made 40 league appearances during that time. His experience in Italy is now set to form part of Hull City’s defensive options under Jakirovic.
The right-back began his career in the Arsenal academy but did not make a first-team appearance for the club. Before joining Genoa, he gained senior experience through loan spells with Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Coventry City and Millwall.
His move to Hull City brings his time with Genoa to an end after two seasons, while Drameh’s departure completes the corresponding part of the deal between the two clubs. The English defender’s five-year agreement represents a long-term commitment from Hull City as they continue to reshape their squad during the summer.
Norton-Cuffy’s previous loan clubs provided him with opportunities to develop away from Arsenal before his permanent move to Genoa. He subsequently played 40 matches in the Italian league over the last two campaigns, establishing experience at senior level before returning to England.
Hull City’s announcement confirms both the arrival of Norton-Cuffy and the departure of Drameh, with the financial details of the transfer not disclosed. The former Arsenal academy player is the latest addition to a summer recruitment programme that has now produced 15 newcomers.
For Jakirovic, the signing adds another defender to the squad and specifically addresses the right flank. Norton-Cuffy’s route to Hull City has included academy football at Arsenal, loan spells across English football and two seasons competing in Italy’s league with Genoa.
The transfer also means the two defenders involved in the agreement will continue their careers at different clubs. Norton-Cuffy will join Hull City on a contract running for five years, while Drameh heads to Genoa as part of the deal.
Norton-Cuffy has not played for Arsenal’s senior side, but his spells at Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Coventry City and Millwall preceded his move abroad. His 40 league appearances for Genoa over the past two seasons are the latest chapter of that development, before his return to England with Hull City.
