Host Ghana lifted the inaugural WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup on Sunday at the expense of Nigeria after triumphing on penalties on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Black Maidens won after a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat of the Flamingos at the Ghanaian Centre of Excellence in Prampram, outside Accra.
Getrude Amoafoa opened score for the Ghanaians in the 13th minute through a corner.
Priscilla Mensah doubled the lead for the hosts five minutes later as the Ghana remained with the lead till the end of the first half.
Nigeria came out stronger pulling a goal back in the 53rd minute through Chiemerie Oscar before Chidera Harmony Chidi restored parity in the 73rd minute.
With nothing to separate the two sides after 90 minutes, the encounter was decided via spot kicks and the Ghanaians edged it 5-4 to emerge WAFU-B zone B U-17 Girls Cup.
