Hellas Verona Revive Interest in Rangers Striker Cyriel Dessers Ahead of Transfer Deadline

With the 2025 summer transfer window entering its final week, Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona has reportedly renewed their interest in Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The 30-year-old Nigerian international has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox, sparking fresh speculation about a potential return to Italy.

Manager Paolo Zanetti is believed to be seeking attacking reinforcements, with Verona targeting Dessers’ experience to strengthen their Serie A campaign.

According to The Scottish Sun, Verona were previously linked with the Nigerian forward 18 months ago, though a transfer never materialized. Rangers boss Russell Martin has also admitted that a late exit remains possible before the window shuts on Monday.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira confirmed Verona’s renewed interest, while also noting that Dessers had been on the radar of AEK Athens earlier in the summer. Meanwhile, Italian outlet L’Arena reports that talks are ongoing with Verona’s sporting director Sean Sogliano, though a key stumbling block remains that Rangers prefer a permanent transfer, while Verona are pushing for a loan deal.

Since joining Rangers from Cremonese in 2023, Dessers has been a consistent performer, scoring 52 goals in 115 appearances. However, he has missed recent matches, including the 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League playoff first leg and a 1-1 league draw with St. Mirren due to injury.

Despite his absence, Russell Martin confirmed that the forward is expected to be available for the decisive second-leg clash against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
