Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak Gerald Ankrah has revealed the club will soon be introducing a monthly best player award as an incentive for the players to give of their best at all times.

Speaking with accraheartsofoak.com concerning new initiatives to be rolled soon by the club, Mr Gerald explained the reasons behind the pipeline monthly best player award.

He said: "As a means of motivating the players to give of their best, the board and management have decided to introduce the monthly best player award scheme for the club. The criteria for it will soon be introduced and the players will be taken through it.

The initial voting for the monthly best player award would be done by the players themselves; and when it becomes successful, we will expand it to include all fans that watch our matches so that at least players will feel motivated to give of their best.

"We feel currently they are giving of their best but maybe there is nothing to show for it, but this is a means of taking them to next level.

"We are going to engage a company and give them short codes that members can send texts messages, and at the end of the month, the results will be given us and there will be prizes for the players as well."

Asked what prizes they have in store for the would-be award winners, the managing director said:"We are looking for a sponsor who would have maybe some electronic gadgets including cameras, mobile phones, and what have you just to motivate them to give of their best for the club."

Meanwhile, Hearts have faced setbacks in the second round of the league season, but Gerald Ankrah believes Hearts will come out stronger from the recent setbacks saddling the team, adding that the portent for a revival is imminent.

"If fans will recollect, we have been through this bad patch somewhere in 2008 or early 1990s.

We went through this bad patch again; we lost a series of matches that we did not understand but the following season, we came back and won the league.

"I want the fans to rather focus on this bad patch and take it as the beginning of something good we should expect next season."
