Hearts of Oak recorded a slim 1-0 win over AS Police of Benin in the Confederation Cup preliminary round qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Striker Selasie Adjei scored just one minute into the second half after an even first stanza.

He arrived in time to power Owusu Bempah's corner into the roof of the net. It took a slight deflection on the line.

It could have been goal number two shortly afterwards but Kofi Abanga’s strike was awkwardly parried out by the AS Police goalkeeper for a corner-kick.

Substitute striker Kwame Kizito missed a glorious opportunity to double the lead but the younger, who was put through clear on goal, shot straight into the body of the goalkeeper.

Hearts dominated play but could not take make the hatful of scoring chances created count.

The return leg will be played in a fortnight.
