“He is an exciting young player" - Simon Francis gushes over Nigeria-eligible center back qualities

AFC Bournemouth's technical director Simon Francis has revealed why the Cherries moved swiftly to bring in Nigeria-eligible defender Matai Akinmboni from MLS side DC United, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 18-year-old who several clubs across Europe have tracked during his youth career joins the club on a long-term contract having arrived at Vitality Stadium.

His deal was officially confirmed two days ago where he spoke to the media as well as first team technical director, Simon Francis.

“We are delighted to sign Matai to a long-term deal with AFC Bournemouth. He is an exciting young player we have been monitoring for an extended period and have been impressed by his progress.

“Matai is a player we believe has a very bright future and we are looking forward to seeing him develop with us", he added.

Having represented the USA at the junior level, he is eligible to represent Nigeria through his parents.
