Esperance playmaker Harrison Afful says he didn’t celebrate his goal against Hearts of Oak on Sunday because of his immense respect for the Ghanaian club.

The Blood and Gold run riot to thrash Hearts 4-0 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie last Sunday in Tunis.

Harrison Afful who terrorized Hearts from midfield scored one of the goals but refused to celebrate.

The Ghana international used to play against Hearts during his time in Ghana Premier League while he was with Asante Kotoko.

Afful now reveals his respect for Hearts of Oak prevented him from celebrating his goal.

“I was trying to be a professional because I respect Hearts of Oak a lot,” he said.

“When my colleagues scored I celebrated with them but when I scored I refrained from celebrating.

“Hearts is one of the great clubs in Ghana and I have a lot of respect for them.”

Afful and his Esperance team will travel to Accra on June 7 for the return leg against Hearts.
