Governor Ganduje Dissolves Kano Pillars Board Over Poor Results

Published on: 19 October 2016

Governor Ganduje gave the directive when he received players of Kano Pillars Basketball team who visited him in his office earlier on Wednesday.

The former deputy governor recalled how he oversaw the affairs of the football club, giving them the desired support as a result of which they kept performing well.

Pillars finished seventh in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season which ended recently.

"I made sure they got with they wanted and I even went to the extent of investing my personal resources in the club to ensure that they succeeded," the governor said in a statement signed by the Director General of Media and Community in the government house, Salihu Yakasai.

"Now that I am the governor, the most shameful thing is that despite putting somebody who I know to head the board, regardless of all the support from the state government, the team is in disarray and has failed horribly."

While also regretting the dwindling fortunes of the club, Ganduje stated: "I advised them on the strategy to adopt to remain on top of the league and I told them we were ready to follow their plans.

"Unfortunately, the issue of money became more important to them than that of performance. They pursued personal and monetary interests and could not maintain their position.”

Governor Ganduje, however, assured that the club will soon improve as the government is determined to get a new board, a competent coach as well as find good players, at whatever cost, to forge ahead.

The governor further directed the Chairman of the state Sports Commission Ibrahim Galadima to draft a proposal on a new proactive board that would work towards restoring the glory of the club within 90 days.
