Goalkeeper Oluehi The Heroine Once Again As Super Falcons Beat South Africa To Lift AWCON For the 10th Time

Goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi was once again the heroine for the Nigeria women team in their 5-3 penalty win over South Africa in the final of the Africa Women Cup Of Nations after both teams stayed tied at 0-0 after extra time.

An evenly contested first half was dominated by Nigeria in terms of chances created but poor finishing robbed them the chance to go into the half time break in the lead.

The second half was more of the same but a better opportunity for Nigeria to take the lead was presented to them when top striker Francesca Ordega was fouled in the box.

Assisat Oshoala stepped up to take the resultant kick but missed horribly much to the delight of the South Africans who feared the worst when she stepped up to take the spot kick.

Both teams fail to break down each other after 30 minutes of extra time leading the game into penalties once again just like it was in the semi final win over Cameroon.

Goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi was once again the hero for Nigeria saving the last spot kick by South Africa to clinch the trophy for Nigeria despite Onome Ebi missing the first spot kick.

The consolation for South Africa is not just the silver medal as they are also through to the Women World Cup despite failing to dislodge Nigeria as defending champions. It’s the 9th time that Nigeria have clinched the trophy out of the 10 times ?it has been played.
