Following their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final loss to Ivory Coast, Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes that the Black Stars gave away the title after surrendering their two goal advantage on penalties.
The Ghanaians missed out on their fifth continental crown after losing 9-8 to the Elephants, on penalties after the game ended goalless in regulation time, at the Estadio de Bata, Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.
Addressing reporters in a post-match press conference, the former Sunderland forward said now is the time to move on and focus on the future without pointing fingers to fellow team-mates.
“We lost where it matters most, but on penalties,” said Gyan.
“We had a chance to win it after having a two-goal advantage but we gave it away.
“But we can’t blame it on anyone, we lost as team.
“It’s football, things like those always happen, now we just have to move on and focus on what lies ahead.
“Congratulations to Ivory Coast.”
