French-born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah played an influential role for Caen as he set up their match-winner in their 3-2 win over Olympique Marseille in the French Ligue 1 on Friday night.

The 22-year-old is proving his importance for Caen after providing his second assist in three games.

Appiah, a former AS Monaco youth team player, laced well into the box as his tailor-made pass found substitute Nicolas Benezet who perfectly connected home for the match winner at the Stade Velodrome with three minutes left to play.

The attention has been on Ghana winger Andre Ayew who scored the opening goal of the tie for Marseille but his side lost the game.

Appiah first came to the fore when he assisted a goal in a Caen come-back against giants Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago.
