Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has questioned the rationale behind the GFA’s decision to introduce Avram Grant onto the technical bench of the Black Satellites.
Despite guiding the Black Stars to the final of the 2015 AFCON, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that Grant should not be allowed to come close to the Satellites’ bench for any reason.
He told the Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview that he did not anticipate a situation where the Israeli trainer would introduce anything new to the Ghanaian bench and preferred Sellas was left alone to do his job.
“Grant is not a better coach than Sellas Tetteh’’ he stressed, arguing “it is not necessary because Sellas Tetteh once did it single-handedly and can do it again without support.”
Sellas guided the Black Satellites to win gold at the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 and he is expected to lead a new generation to this year’s Africa Youth Championship scheduled for Senegal next month.
The GFA has strongly defended the decision saying Grant't vast experience and knowledge will help steer the Black Satellites technical team in the right direction.
Meanwhile, the uproar that was generated by Tanink Ghana’s decision to reward the Black Stars with a Jeep Grand Cherokee each, has been described as misplaced by Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe.
The former diplomat reckons that those attacking the state for the cars do not have the full grasp of the issue and must rather channel their rage to the company and not the state.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated that every individual had the right to give whatever he wanted to the players and since those vehicles were not coming from the state it was inappropriate to attack government for the gift.
Tanink Ghana, the authorised distributors of Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles in the country, promised the Black Stars a special package of the cars valued at $75,000 with a demand of a tax rebate from the state.
