Ex-international Augustine Arhinful has attributed Ghana’s 3-0 defeat to Mali at the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup to lack of proper ‘technical direction’.
The Black Satellites were bundled out of the ongoing tournament in New Zealand by a superior Malian side on Wednesday.
Sellas Tetteh rung two major changes in his starting lineup for the game – replacing striker Benjamin Tetteh with Emmanuel Boateng and Osei Barnes for Asiedu Attorbrah.
Ghana however lacked the attacking flair that had characterized its campaign so far in the tournament.
Many have already blamed the changes made by Sellas Tetteh for the sterile performance of the Black Satellites and Augustine Arhinful – a former Ghana international who is a member of the management committee of the Ghana U20 team – agrees.
“We lost to a better side, simple as that,” Arhinful, who was a member of the 1993 Ghana U20 silver medal winning team in Australia, told Happy FM.
“We could have beaten them but today they were better than us.
“The Malians had probably studied us well and took full advantage of our weakness.
“I think we lost the game in terms of technical direction.”
Ghana’s hurtful exit is recorded as the worst ever performance of the Black Satellites in the history of the FIFA U20 World Cup.
The team has at least made the quarter finals every time they showed up at the world finals.
