Ghana's group South Africa and Zambia’s U-20 teams will play for pride when they meet in their final Group B clash at the 2015 African Youth Championships on Sunday.
Kick-off at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar is set for 19h00 CAT.
Both sides come into the game having suffered two defeats from as many matches in the tournament thus far, ruling them out of qualifying for the semi-finals and the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
Amajita were beaten 2-0 and 2-1 by Ghana and Mali respectively, with coach Thabo Senong’s side unable to assert themselves in either match against powerful and physically dominant West African opposition.
The Junior Chipolopolo have also battled to come to terms with the standard of competition at Senegal 2015, suffering 1-0 and 2-1 defeats to Mali and Ghana respectively, though they looked more competitive in both matches than their South African counterparts.
Amajita coach Senong says he will give a run to fringe players in the squad, but is approaching the match with a determination to win and end the tournament on a high.
“The modern environment entails to take each game seriously, whether you have lost your way in the competition or otherwise. It is a culture you have to inculcate in today’s players,” Senong told SAFA Media. “While we will give each player a run on Sunday, we will still play to win.”
His counterpart at Zambia, Hector Chilombo, has echoed similar sentiments. The referee for the match will be Burkina Faso’s Juste Zio.
