Ghana forward Andre Ayew has refused to criticize the formation of coach Avram Grant following the defeat to Senegal on Monday.
The Black Stars threw away an early lead to surrender to a 2-1 defeat in their opening Group C game played in Mongomo.
Andre Ayew has given Ghana a deserved lead from the penalty spot after 13 minutes but Senegal roared back in the second half to clinch the vital win at the depth thanks to goals from Mame Biram Diouf and Moussa Sow.
Ghana coach Avram Grant is already being criticized for persisting with his innovative 3-5-2 formation which the Black Stars are not used to.
But Andre Ayew says he cannot criticize the tactics of his coach in the defeat against Senegal but wants the leaky Ghana defence tightened.
“This is something for the coach to check on that but I believe we are intelligent players and any tactic on the field, we manage to cope with it,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“The chances we had, if we’d scored, it would have been a whole different game so I don’t want to talk about Senegal’s second half.
“If you look at the chances we had in the first half, we had more chances and Senegal dominated the second half.
“We have to be stronger defensively and I think we will be stronger defensively in the next game.”
Ghana must now beat Algeria and South Africa in their remaining group games to survive the competition.
