Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah have been named among the best starting eleven players for the year 2014 following the CAF Awards in Nigeria on Thursday night.

Gyan, who was named on the five-man shortlist for the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year, will take consolation from the fact that he has been recognized by CAF.

He has been in blistering form for both Ghana and his UAE side Al Ain as he led the Black Stars to the World Cup to break Roger Milla as Africa's highest scoring player at the global tournament played in Brazil in June last year.

Gyan was also named the top scorer and best foreign player in Asia last year by the Asia Football Confederation thanks to his heroics in the Asian Champions League.

Kwadwo was instrumental in Juventus' successes in Italy last year while also playing an excellent role at the World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria duo of Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa were named in a CAF Africa XI for 2014.

Goalkeeper Enyeama was beaten to the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year by Cote d’Ivoire skipper Yaya Toure, while Ahmed Musa was on the five-man shortlist for this award.

Other players on the Africa XI are Vincent Enyeama, Kwadwo Asamoah, Asamoah Gyan (Ghana), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyeng (Gabon), Jean Kasusula (DR Congo) and Ahmed Musa (Nigeria), Yacine Brahimi (Algeria).

Lille shot stopper Enyeama was also the goalkeeper in the Africa XI for 2013.
