Ghana defender Awal Mohammed has cancelled his contract with his Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab after just three months.

Both parties are yet to comment on their separation which was reached by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Awal joined Al Shabab from South African club Maritzburg United where he has played his professional football since 2012.

The 27-year-old made nine appearances for the club in the Saudi top-flight and featured in the Asian Champions League but could not help them progress from the Group stage.

Awal was part of the Ghana squad that finished second at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where he played in the opening Black Stars defeat to Senegal.

The former Feyenoord Academy youngster played for Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko before moving to South Africa three years ago.
