Ghana coach Avram Grant admits his team struggled in their 1-0 win over Rwanda due to the poor playing surface.

The patchy pitch at the Amahoro Stadium came into sharp focus over the weekend when Rwanda hosted the Black Stars to a 2017 AFCON qualifier.

The terrible playing surface marred the beauty of the game as both sides struggled to string passes together.

Both sides especially Rwanda had to resort to playing long balls to avoid the disjointed play associated with putting the ball on the ground.

Avram Grant’s side however managed to come away with the win through a late free kick by Mubarak Wakaso.

Grant however noted the almost impossible task of his side playing their accustomed brand of football on the poor playing surface.

“It was difficult to play our football because of the pitch,” he said.

“We like to play one or two touches but it was impossible to play on this pitch.

“But we managed to dominate the game in the second half and we deservedly won.”
