Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan admits there is pressure on coach Avram Grant to excel with the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Chelsea boss will be leading Ghana at the 2015 AFCON in his first competitive assignment since being appointed back in November.

Grant is only required by the Ghana FA to simply ‘do well’ in Equatorial Guinea to set up a strong foundation to win the 2017 edition.

There is however a subtly growing feeling the team can do well at the tournament which kicks off on January 17 to redeem themselves especially following the disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says Grant, 56, will have to deal with the pressure that comes with coaching one of the best teams on the continent.

“Avram Grant knows he is coaching one of the giants in African football,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Ghana is a football nation and therefore there will always be pressure.”

Ghana is drawn in a tough group at the 2015 AFCON against the likes of Senegal, South Africa and Algeria.

The Black Stars are currently in Spain finalizing preparations for this month’s tournament.
