Gernot Rohr Warns Benin Players on Discipline Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifier Against Nigeria

Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has issued a stern warning to his players ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The experienced German tactician expressed concern about his team’s disciplinary record, revealing that nine players are currently at risk of suspension ahead of Friday’s encounter with Rwanda.

The players walking the suspension tightrope include Sessi d’Almeida, Yohan Roche, Jodel Dossou, Rodrigue Kossi, Mohamed Tijani, Samadou Attidjikou, Imourane Hassane, Junior Olaitan, and Cédric Hountondji. Rohr urged his squad to remain composed and avoid unnecessary fouls or confrontations that could jeopardize their qualification hopes.

“If a player is suspended for protesting or showing bad temperament, he will be fined,” Rohr cautioned. “We are very strict about discipline; we can’t afford to be weakened by avoidable mistakes.”

Benin currently sits joint-top of Group C with South Africa on 14 points, following the latter’s three-point deduction. Nigeria, in third place with 11 points, will be eager to take advantage of any slip-ups when both sides clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
